The Pinnacle Club had a call on the Philippines President Duterte 

By the invitation of the Philippines Chapter of The Pinnacle Club of ASEAN and with the strong support from the Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Secretariat of The Pinnacle Club organised an event in Manila for over 30 senior active and retired military and defence officials from 15 to 17 January.

On 15 January, GEN Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero (AFP Chief of Staff) hosted the welcome dinner for the participants including senior AFP officials, members of The Pinnacle Club from Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore alongside observers from the US-China Sanya Initiative.

The programme also included a closed-door roundtable discussion themed “ASEAN Cooperation on Security Concerns” on 16 January featuring speeches from Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana (Secretary of National Defense, Philippines), GEN (Ret’d) Winai Phattiyakul (Former Permanent Secretary of Defence, Thailand) and ACM (Ret’d) Chappy Hakim (Former Chief of Air TNI-AU, Indonesia). The discussion session was moderated by GEN (Ret’d) Emmanuel T. Bautista (Executive Director of the Cabinet Cluster on Security, Justice, and Peace at the Office of the President, Malacañang and Former AFP Chief of Staff).

The highlight of the three-day event was the opportunity for participants to pay a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the Malacañan Palace on the evening of 17 January. President Duterte was accompanied by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Department of Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) officer-in-charge and Undersecretary Eduardo Año, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, and other high-ranking government and military officials.
